If You Are Thinking Of Getting A RC Truck Read This First

Written by admin on Announcement – 8:31 pm -

So you’re thinking of getting a RC truck?”  Don’t till you read this!

1ST you’re going to have to decide what type of RC truck
.

RC trucks come in Electric – Nitro – petrol versions, and the fun you’ll have is priceless. Rc trucks are awesome and most come with big chunky wheels and 4WD, shock absorbers and more.

Electric rc trucks are RTR (ready to run) and you just need to charge up the batteries and go !

They can be used indoors or outside, trucks are great off road and can go over rock, mud, woodland, parks and grass. Also are good on road and can be raced with other rc trucks, with Electric models there is little noise and the maintance is much lower than Nitro.
Speeds of 30 mph and more if modified and stunts an jumps with these are excellent fun but be sure not to drive your truck though any water as it will fry your electrics or servo !

I recommend covering the electric cables and any exposed wires with electrical tape and a good tip is to use a normal balloon and cover the electric receiver to make it water tight. Also check the screws are all tight and you can also use clear silicone to seal the box cover lid and any gaps.

Cleaning the rc truck after each run is essential and a good tool to get in all the little places is to use a toothbrush, just make sure to get all dirt, mud ect off and do a visual check all over. Don’t forget to check the batteries in the controller are fresh or fully charged or you may lose control on the truck or worse head over towards a lake or smash into something and cause damage..

So i strongly suggest for starters using “rechargeable batteries” as it will cost you a lot of money as they tend not to last too long and as you know good batteries are not cheap. Also you’ll always know the batteries are full and fresh.

there are two main types of electric motors- Brushed and Brushless.

With a brushed motor there are small contact brushes inside the motor that make it spin and are common on toy grade trucks, some can have replaceable brushes that can be fitted and cleaning is needed as dust and debris builds up inside.

Brushless motors are becoming more popular now as there are more benefits as there are no brushes, so there is much less friction and therefore produces less heat so you can go longer running your vehicle and more importantly it will be faster ! Yes as a brushless motor can take more voltage than a brushed one so speed and performance is far better and your be less likely to burn out the motor by overheating. Brushless is much worth the extra bit of money and your save in the long run. Electric rc trucks are best for beginners and children to start off with.

NITRO RC TRUCKS
Nitro trucks are powered by a special nitro fuel which can easily be bought from a hobby shop or online and it is worth the extra effort. With nitro models there is much more maintence like checking tires, air filter and empty any nitro fuel left in the tank, as not doing so or investing the extra time needed could destroy the engine.

Like a normal NEW car you have to run the engine in slowly and this is the same for any new nitro radio controlled vehicle, so be sure to read the instructions well or research about nitro models as this can get costly if you just go and blast it around and blow the engine up. But hey let me tell you Nitro rc trucks are fast, noisy and can keep refuelling and going.
Nitro rc trucks can reach speeds of 70 mph and some come with full specification like 2 speed gearbox, 4WD tough alloy shocks and cool body shells.

Because of the fuel and speed of nitro trucks they are not for children under 14 years old. This is a great hobby and if speed is you then nitro is the way to go.

Petrol rc trucks
Petrol rc trucks run on unleaded petrol and 2 stroke oil which can be bought from any petrol forecourt and normally when you buy a petrol rc truck you’re get a mixing bottle to mix up the right mixture but these are great trucks like the hummer rc truck for example: the sizes are normally bigger 1/5th scale and these trucks can do jumps, spins and can do speeds of 80 KM/H.

The smell of the petrol burning away is the closest your get to the real thing but petrol models are the most expensive of all the 3 to buy but are second to none for racing and give the feel of the real thing.

D.O.G.S. Airshow 2008 (Giant Scale Radio Control Airplanes)- F-18 Super Hornet

Written by admin on – 8:19 pm -

DOGS Airshow 2008 (Giant Scale Radio Control Airplanes) Normally when you say something is going to the dogs it means that things aren’t good. But in Dayton, Ohio on Labor Day weekend going to the DOGS means some of the best RC flying around. The Half Time Shows were really interesting in that the DOGS did a good job of highlighting almost all aspects of the hobby including 3D, Precision Aerobatics, Warbirds, Turbines, Helicopters, Racers, and even small electric Foamies were represented. One thing that I did notice was that the show changed a little bit each day. The DOGS would add elements to the show as different pilots would arrive to the show. One of the more interesting aspects of the show to me was the Warbirds fly. Helicopter Crashes- IRCHA Jamboree- Radio Control Helicopter Competition

Written by admin on March 14, 2010 – 8:18 pm -

IRCHA Jamboree- Radio Control Helicopter Competition The International Radio Controlled Helicopter Association (IRCHA) was founded in 1989 by helicopter pilot Don Chapman. IRCHA is a Special Interest Group (SIG) that represents the interests of helicopter pilots within the AMA. IRCHA hosted its first Jamboree in Dayton, Ohio in 1992. The following year the event was held in Pittsburg, Pennsylvania. From 1994 through the year 2000, the Jamboree found a home in Hebron, Ohio which is located outside of the city of Columbus. Following the sale of the property in Hebron, Ron Kummer approached the AMA about using the flying site in Muncie for the Jamboree. The Jamboree immediately followed the helicopter world championships in 2001 and despite the tragedy that occurred that September when the airlines shut down, the Jamboree attracted around 200 pilots. The IRCHA Jamboree has been held at AMA headquarters ever since. This year, aside from the 3D flying (and there was plenty of that!), a pit area and flight station were set aside for scale and vintage helicopter flying. Much to my surprise, this was just to the right of show center. In Peter Wales book on scale helicopter flying he mentions that people get bored with 3D helicopter antics, but if you break out a scale helicopter people will stop what they are doing and watch. This was clearly in evidence as any time one of the larger scale helicopters took to the air the video cameras were rolling and the still cameras (mine

Tips on How to Store Radio Controlled Cars

Written by admin on March 13, 2010 – 8:21 pm -

First things first! Why is it important to clean and properly store radio controlled cars? Do you remember the reason your mother always told you to clean yourself up, clean your room, wash the dishes, etc.? That is – to keep you clean as well as up and running.

The same is true with radio controlled cars. The following are effective and necessary tips to store and keep those vehicles in great shape.

Believe it or not, the fuels used in nitro trucks or cars as well as in radio-controlled cars contain lubricants. The lubricants in these cars actually serve to protect the engine. This is due to the fact that not all of it gets burned when the engine runs. This therefore results in a chassis that is coated with a lot of oil which made its exit from the car’s pipe.

The way to remove this as easily as possible is by using a cleaner: one example is Simple Green. However, it is best to first remove all and any radio equipment before cleaning; after which, plug the inlets onto the engine. Another option is by removing the engine itself.

The chassis should then be sprayed down lightly. Use a brush that has a firm bristle to knock away any grime. Once the chassis has been cleaned, use a towel to dry it. Then, re-install the removed components.

The majority of radio-controlled cars have an electric starter. The bearings in this starter should always be oiled and cleaned at least every week or two.

The starter should then be removed as carefully as possible. The use of a screwdriver is an effective way to keep the pressure on the mechanism as the starter is pulled off the plate’s back.

Spray the bearing with engine spray in order to clean it. Oil the bearing in order to keep it running smoothly. You will discover that once the engine and starter is reassembled, it will work almost as good as new.

Fuel should be stored in a place that is dry and – as much as possible – away from pets, children, or anyone else who could mistake the fuel as washer for the windshield.

All in all, when fuel is stored, it could absorb water vapor over a significant amount of time, especially if the container is not sealed perfectly. It is best to store bottles on a cardboard and not on the carpet directly or on cement.

Electri-Fly Super Sportster EP radio control electric airplane

Written by admin on March 7, 2010 – 8:28 pm -

The Sportster is truly a fun plane to fly. The suggested battery can provide long flight times with less than half throttle on the rimfire 0.25, which still pulls the airframe around fairly briskly. After a twelve minute flight, I put back in 1600ma. At full throttle, the fun really begins as you push the airframe to the extremes of its flight envelope.Read the full review/article loading with pictures www.rcuniverse.com www.rcuniverse.com -World’s Largest Radio Control Community http -Buy, Sell, and Trade RC www.rcuniverse.com -Read Radio Control online reviews and articles www.rcuvideos.com – Watch Radio Contol Videos http -Discuss Electric Radio Control Aircraft
